screen printing calibration

My printer prints a photo slightly more red/magenta than what I see on my Screen. HELP?
I know about those printer calibration tools and software you can buy, but how can I just fix this without it.
If your printer reports that it’s not experiencing problems, and a printed test page looks okay, your computer monitor may be out of adjustment. This would cause the image to look different when it is printed than it does on your monitor. Try scanning an image and comparing the scanned picture to the image on your monitor. If the color balances are different, your monitor is out of adjustment. Adjust accordingly.
